On December 31, 2015, the ASEAN Economic Community was officially established. Since then, countries in Southeast Asia have entered labor integration in a number of industries, including the tourism industry. That means that ASEAN enterprises have the right to recruit workers in any country. This is an opportunity but also a great challenge for human resources in the tourism industry of Vietnam.
DIFFICULTIES AND CHALLENGES
Vietnam's tourism industry was established in 1960 but only developed and became an independent industry in the early 1990s. The growth rate of domestic tourists is quite high and even over the years (less than 10% per year). However, the growth rate of international tourists in recent 3 years is very low, only 7.5 to 8 million visitors per year, very small compared with other ASEAN countries (same 2015: Malaysia welcomed about 25.7 Million international tourists, Singapore welcome 10 million, Thailand welcome about 30 million).
This shows that Vietnam is no longer an attractive destination for international tourists, very few international tourists traveling back to Vietnam (because of high prices but poor service quality, Travel products are monotonous ...). In addition, another reason is due to lack of professional human resources in tourism. There are more than 600,000 direct workers in the Vietnamese tourism industry, but almost 40% are not trained or only trained at elementary level, not to mention about 1 million indirect laborers almost never train. The quality of human resources in the tourism industry in Vietnam is weak and lack, it is difficult to compete with foreign workers in ASEAN integration.
According to statistics, in 2015, Vietnam has 18,800 accommodation facilities with 335,000 standard bedrooms. The number of joint-stock companies, with foreign investment increased rapidly, most tourism companies, hotels and resorts from 3-5 stars in Vietnam have a share or 100% foreign capital, by the people. Foreign executives. The sharp reduction in the number of state-owned enterprises, the rapid increase in the number of foreign-owned enterprises, has brought a new positive wind to the Vietnamese tourism industry. However, when international integration, foreign enterprises prefer to recruit skilled workers with foreign language skills and especially have the spirit of learning, demand for communication, civilized communication and service attitude. good. The above requirements are weaknesses of Vietnamese workers in general and labor in tourism in particular, so the chances of being recruited by world-class enterprises of Vietnamese workers in tourism is lower than that of workers Moving in the area.
ACTIVITY ON THE HOUSE
In order to overcome these challenges and successfully integrate into international integration, it is critical to train human resources in the high quality tourism industry both in vocational skills and in labor awareness. Specifically, for training institutions, the supply of human resources for the tourism industry must be invested in a comprehensive manner both in terms of facilities, modern teaching equipment and teaching programs. International integration, meeting the requirements of the society and enterprises, faculty of international standards in terms of workmanship, practical experience and foreign language.
For students, tourism students should be well trained skills such as: professional skills (depending on the level of training that needs to master the service skills); Communication skills, civilized behavior, professional; Good foreign language; Have a good sense of good labor, good communication, team spirit, teamwork, teamwork. More importantly, for the human resources to meet the needs of society, the school must be associated with the tourism business. That is, the travel business will be the practice and work part-time students, while sitting on the school seat. Businesses will be invited to participate in building, updating the training and teaching programs in schools, teachers and leaders of the department, leaders in the business often exchange, work together ...
We believe that renovating training activities and providing high quality tourism human resources is the key solution for Vietnam's international integration and sustainable development.
